At least four individuals from Nasarawa State tragically lost their lives in a boat accident in the Awe Local Government Area.
The incident occurred when a boat carrying rice farmers from Ubbe District in the Nasarawa Eggon LGA capsized while crossing a river in Hunki village of Awe LGA on Monday night.
The bodies of the victims, namely Alkali Congo, Shedrack Dauda, Mashack Dauda, and Akolo Moses, have been returned to their families for proper identification.
In Lafia on Tuesday, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the incident and mentioned that the boat’s driver is still unaccounted for.
He said, “Confirmed. It happened yesterday; the farmers were returning from the farm, and the boat capsized.
“But with the support of local divers, four corpses were recovered, and one person was rescued.
“The person driving the boat is yet to be found and efforts are ongoing to find him.
“The Acting Commissioner of Police sympathised with the families of the deceased and prayed to God to console them specially.”
