Barcelona suffered their first home defeat of the season after a surprising 2-1 loss to Las Palmas on Saturday, marking a significant setback for the Spanish league leaders.
Under new coach Hansi Flick, Barcelona had enjoyed a stellar start to the season, showcasing dominant performances that included emphatic victories over Real Madrid in La Liga and Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The Catalan club had also maintained a perfect record at home, winning all eight of their matches at the Spotify Camp Nou.
However, the team has now gone winless in its last three La Liga outings. Before falling to Las Palmas, Barcelona endured a 1-0 defeat against Real Sociedad and a 2-2 draw with Celta Vigo.
This latest result opens the door for Real Madrid, which has struggled in the Champions League but can now overtake Barcelona in the domestic league. Madrid sits four points behind, with two extra games to play.
Sandro Ramirez and Fábio Silva found the net for Las Palmas, scoring on either side of Raphinha’s equalizer.
Lamine Yamal, returning from a three-week layoff due to a right ankle injury, came on as a substitute at halftime but couldn’t break through.
His best effort was thwarted by Jasper Cillessen, who also made a crucial save to tip Raphinha’s late free kick over the bar, securing the win for the visitors.
