The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency has revealed that it has arrested 18,940 people in the last two years for various drug crimes.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, this was disclosed by the Chairman of the agency, Brig-Gen Mohammed Buba-Marwa, while speaking to journalists in Yola on Tuesday.
He stated that during the review period, the agency obtained 3,324 convictions, seized 5.4 kg of various control drugs and narcotic substances, and rehabilitated 3,326 drug abusers.
Marwa, urged on parents, community and religious leaders to enhance efforts in enabling the agency to contain the tide of the danger, stating “drugs do not discriminate between tribe, religion or area”.
He stated that the organization had recently obtained drug and lie testing kits, and that prospective couples should be checked for drug use before getting married.
“Drug test would determine the innocence or otherwise of couples and it will save marrital relationships from collapse due to abuse of drugs” he said.
