The Sokoto State Hisbah Board has intercepted and confiscated over 200 cartons of substances believed to be alcoholic beverages at the Sokoto Central Motor Park.
According to The PUNCH, the state, Hisbah Commander, Usman Jatau, paraded the seized items. He disclosed that no individual or group had come forward to claim ownership of the confiscated goods.
“The board will consult the State Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General to determine the appropriate course of action,” Jatau stated.
The commander used the opportunity to outline the state’s regulations guiding residents’ behavior, emphasizing that they are meant to promote order and compliance with Islamic teachings.
“These rules are not designed to target anyone or create chaos but to serve as guiding principles for daily activities,” Jatau explained.
He further urged residents to adhere to Sharia law in their daily lives and avoid prohibited activities, saying, “Let me appeal to the people to fear Allah in all our dealings. We must avoid all forbidden acts, such as mingling between males and females, and ensure that dress codes and social interactions align with Islamic principles.”
Jatau also warned against immoral behavior, cheating, and engaging in activities contrary to Islamic teachings. He emphasized that ceremonies and public gatherings must comply with Sharia law and condemned the sale or distribution of illicit substances at such events.
