Ten people have lost their lives, and one other person sustained injuries in a road accident at Yanfari village in Jigawa State’s Taura Local Government Area.
The collision occurred late Monday night and involved a Toyota Hummer bus and a stationary trailer.
According to Jigawa State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the accident happened around 9:30 p.m. as the Toyota Hummer bus, registered HDJ 631 YDD, traveled from Kano to Hadejia.
The bus collided with a parked trailer, with registration number RGN180 ZC, resulting in a somersault.
“The Jigawa State Police Command regrets to inform the public of a fatal accident that took place on November 12, 2024, around 21:30 hrs, in Yanfari village along the Kano/Hadejia Road,” DSP Adam said in a statement released Tuesday.
He explained that the driver and nine passengers died instantly. “Upon receiving the report, our patrol team from Taura Division responded swiftly, evacuating the ten bodies to Hadejia General Hospital, where medical staff confirmed their deaths,” Adam said.
The injured passenger was taken to Majia Primary Health Care Centre and is reportedly responding well to treatment.
