A Chief Magistrate in Ondo State, Olateju Odenusi-Fadeyi, has ordered the remand of a 15-year-old female student from Anglican Grammar School in Arigidi Akoko, following allegations of her involvement in the fatal stabbing of her colleague, 17-year-old Habib Salau.
The magistrate directed that the accused be held at the Ondo State Juvenile Home in Akure while awaiting further instructions from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
Notably, the magistrate did not take the student’s plea during the proceedings.
According to reports, the incident occurred on October 3, around 3:30 p.m., in Imo, Arigidi Akoko, during a confrontation after school hours.
The student is facing charges of conspiracy and murder stemming from the violent altercation.
Police Prosecutor Josephine Awana detailed the events leading to the tragedy, stating, “The defendant accused the deceased of accosting her on the way home after a misunderstanding between them.” The situation escalated into a fight, and during this confrontation, it is alleged that the defendant received a knife from an unidentified individual, who “ordered her to stab the deceased on the neck.”
The charges against the student fall under Sections 124 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
Awana requested that the court remand the student at the correctional facility until the DPP issues further guidance on the case, emphasizing the serious nature of the allegations and the need for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Salau’s tragic death.
