Egypt’s Amin Mohamed Omar has been chosen to referee the match between the host country, Cote D’ivoire and Guinea Bissau in the 2023 African Cup of Nations.
He was appointed 24 hours before the commencement of the 34th edition of the AFCON.
It was not the first international experience of the 39-year-old, he officiated during the FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil in 2019.
Others named to give support to the Egyptian include his Compatriots Mahmoud Ahmed Kamel and Ahmed Hossam Taha. Mahmoud Elbana has also appointed as the VAR referee of the match.
The match between Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau is scheduled to kick off at 20:00 GMT at the Alassane Ouattara Olympic Stadium in Ebimpé.
There are 24 national teams from the Confederation of African Football battling to be crowned Kings of the Continent of the AFCON over the next month.
Nigeria will make their 19th appearance in 2023 AFCON having been crowned champions three times prior; in 2013, 1994, and 1980.
The Super Eagles‘ first two group matches will take place at the Stade Olympique Alassane Ouattara D’Anyama, while their third game will be played at the Stade Félix-Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan.
José Peseiro’s side will play their first match against Equatorial Guinea on 14th January by 3 pm.
