World record holder in the Women’s 100m hurdles, Tobi Amusan, has been celebrated with a prominent billboard in Ogun State, recognizing her as Nigeria’s flag bearer for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games opening ceremony.
The hurdling queen was celebrated in her hometown with a massive billboard, showing support for her anticipated Olympic performance in Paris.
Amusan, who hails from Ogun, is among Nigeria’s top medal prospects for Paris.
This gesture marks a significant recognition and support for her, a rarity for a state honouring its own during the Olympics.
Amusan will compete in her signature event—the women’s 100m hurdles—where she holds the world record and is highly favoured to secure a medal.
If she succeeds, it would be Nigeria’s first Olympic medal in this event since Glory Alozie’s silver medal performance at Sydney 2000.
This will also mark Amusan’s first Olympic medal after competing in Rio 2016 and the postponed Tokyo 2021 Games.
Her impressive achievements have established her as one of the world’s premier hurdlers.
With Ogun State and Nigeria’s backing, Amusan aims to capture gold in Paris and solidify her legacy as one of the greatest in the history of hurdling.
