The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended a 21-year-old man, Dauda Sa’idu, for allegedly desecrating graves and stealing iron rods for sale.
According to The PUNCH, the arrest was made public through a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police Ahmed Wakili, on Sunday.
According to the statement, Sa’idu, a resident of Yelwa, was arrested on September 20, 2024, for trespassing, vandalism, and theft at a Christian cemetery in the Yelwan Kagadama area of Bauchi.
Wakili revealed that Sa’idu caused significant damage to several graves while removing iron rods in broad daylight.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to selling the stolen rods in multiple transactions, receiving sums of N9,500, N12,000, and N5,500 from scrap metal buyers.
He confessed that the money was used to purchase Indian hemp and food for personal use.
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, has ordered that Sa’idu face prosecution after investigations are complete.
Muhammad also stressed the importance of parental supervision, urging parents and guardians to keep a close watch on their children and wards.
