A group of 40 members from the Emirate council has expressed their loyalty to the 16th Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sanusi II, amidst ongoing disputes.
On Sunday, he presided over his inaugural court session with district heads and senior traditional council members at the Gidan Rumfa palace.
This meeting followed his reinstatement by Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf on Friday.
As the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Emir Sanusi officially took on his superior responsibilities by presiding over the expanded council meeting, more than 40 district heads and senior council members reaffirmed their loyalty to him, easing the tensions that had surrounded the emirship in Kano.
Upon taking up residence in the palace, the district heads and council members prostrated before him, signaling their official endorsement of his position as the rightful Emir of Kano.
Among those who paid homage were the five kingmakers: Madaki, Wali, Makama, Sarkin Bai, and Sarkin Dawaki Mai Tuta.
Other notable figures included Waziri, Turaki, Sarkin Shanu, Danburan, Dan İsa, Dan Lawan, Dan Amar Magajin Gari, Dan Majen, Dan Kade, Matawalle, Sarkin Fulanin Jaidanawa, Magajin Malam, Dokaji, and Dandarman Kano.
Additional members such as Marafa, Dallatu, Magajin Rafi, Sarkin Fada, Bunun, Baura, Dan Madamin, Dan Galadima, Talba, San Turaki, Dangoriba, Dan Maliki, Falaki, Yarima, Baraya, Zanna, Yan Daka, Fagaci, Dan Masani, and Wakilin Barden Kano also pledged their loyalty.
After the council meeting, Emir Sanusi met with various interest groups, including the vigilante, women’s organizations, private individuals, and well-wishers who had gathered at the palace to show their respect and loyalty.
Before the council meeting, the emir made a grand entrance, riding a white royal horse from his inner palace in the famous Gidan Rumfa, acknowledging the warm greetings from his subjects.
Emir Sanusi reclaimed his position on Thursday after Governor Yusuf approved the repeal of the 2019 law that had divided the Kano emirate into five regions, leading to his previous removal.
