Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has ordered the demolition of brothels and criminal dens notorious for prostitution, gangsterism, and other illicit activities around the Maiduguri metropolis.
According to The PUNCH, the directive requires the demolition to be carried out within 72 hours.
The governor issued this stern order during a visit to Bayan Quarters, a settlement located near the Railway Staff Quarters in the metropolis. Governor Zulum expressed deep concern about the escalating criminal activities associated with these brothels and emphasized the urgency of demolishing them.
Governor Zulum stated, “The government has been duly informed of the activities that are going on here; this settlement is completely illegal. People are killed here, and this place serves as a breeding space for insurgents. Therefore, I have directed that everybody should vacate the place.”
In addition to the demolition, the governor also announced the revocation of the land title where these criminal activities took place.
According to him, the land was initially approved for use by the Nigerian Railway Corporation but had been illegally rented out for various criminal activities.
The governor emphasized, “For this reason, the government has revoked the earlier approval, and henceforth, the land belongs to the Borno State Government.”
