A 49-year-old woman identified as, Victoria Idowu, has reportedly committed suicide in her residence in the Magboro area of Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Spokesperson for the state Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident.
Her son was said to have discovered the lifeless body of his mother who hanged herself on a ceiling upon his return from a church service, prompting him to raise the alarm.
It was learnt that police authorities were swiftly informed of the tragic incident.
Speaking on the incident, Confirming the incident, Odutola said that no suicide note was found at the scene.
She added that law enforcement officers from the Ibafo Division were dispatched to investigate further.
“According to the son, he came back from the church at about 1530 hours and discovered that his mother, one Mrs. Idowu Victoria, ‘F’, aged 49 years of the same address, had committed suicide by hanging herself on the ceiling fan inside her room.
“The DPO immediately drafted men to the scene. No suicide note was found, the PPRO said.
She went further that an investigation has begun to unearth the circumstances behind the incident.
Odutola then enjoined members of the public to always provide support to their loved ones who may be suffering from mental health challenges.
Noting that an investigation is still ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the sad incident, she noted that suicide is unlawful.
