The presidential candidate of the Labour Party in 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi has congratulated the Nigerian Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience, Ijeoma Uchegbu, who was just announced as the 7th president of Wolfson College.
Obi sent his goodwill message in a post via his X, formerly Twitter handle on Monday.
Uchegbu was named as the seventh President of Wolfson College, one of the 31 colleges at the University of Cambridge in recognition of her pioneering work in nanoparticle drug delivery and presently lectures at University College London.
The announcement was made via a statement dubbed, ‘Wolfson elects Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu as the College’s 7th President’ on the University’s website.
Uchegbu will assume office on October 1, 2024, succeeding the current President, Professor Jane Clarke.
Obi, a former Anambra State governor celebrated Uchegbu’s remarkable achievement.
He expressing optimism that she would impact the world in her position through science and technology.
The LP flagbearer who appreciated the professor for bringing honour to the country also urged her to contribute to the development of Nigeria especially in health and education.
He wrote, “I wish to joyfully congratulate Ijeoma Uchegbu, a Nigerian and Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience, celebrated for her exceptional work in nanoparticle drug delivery, who has just been announced as the 7th President of Wolfson College.
“I am hopeful that she will make more global impacts, and through her position, raise a generation of enthusiastic researchers who will advance the frontiers of science, medicine, and global health through science and development.
“While thanking her for bringing honour to our nation and for reflecting the high intellectual prowess of Nigerians, I also urge her to continue to contribute to the development of our dear nation, especially in health and education.
“Progressive minds like Prof Uchegbu show that Nigeria is abundantly gifted in human resources, and with them, we will build the New Nigeria that will be beneficial to all.”
