The Niger State Police Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 70-year-old beggar, identified as Buba, whose body was found on a roadside in Kontagora Local Government Area.
“We are working to determine the cause of death, and our preliminary investigation suggests that there was no sign of violence on the body,” said Wasiu Abiodun, Police Public Relations Officer. “However, we are conducting further examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.”
Buba, believed to have hailed from Bangi in Magama Local Government Area, was found lying unconscious near the BCGA Bridge on Kontagora-Zuru Road.
Residents reported that he had been seen begging alms at various junctions in the area.
“It’s a sad situation, and we are trying to understand what led to his death,” said Abiodun. “We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist us in our investigation.”
The remains of the beggar have been deposited at the Kontagora General Hospital’s mortuary awaiting burial.
