Adanaspor, a team competing in Turkey’s second-tier league, the TFF First League, has secured the services of experienced Nigerian midfielder.
The midfielder’s addition to Turkish football may be indicative of an emerging pattern following Victor Osimhen’s recent loan move to Galatasaray, pipping Turkey as a new favorable destination for Nigerian football talents.
The midfielder, Bonke Innocent, joins Adanaspor on a one-year contract, with an option to extend the deal for an additional 12 months.
The 27-year-old midfielder brings a wealth of experience, having started his football career at Bujoc FC in Nigeria before moving to Europe, where he played for Norwegian club Lillestrom and Swedish giants Malmö FF. His most recent stint was in France’s Ligue 1 with FC Lorient.
Adanaspor is optimistic about the impact of their latest signing, expressing their enthusiasm with an official statement, “Our Adanaspor signed a 1+1 year contract with experienced midfielder, Bonke Innocent. We wish Bonke Innocent success under our Orange-White jersey.”
Innocent’s arrival in Turkey could mark the beginning of more Nigerian footballers considering the Turkish league as a platform to elevate their careers, especially with the attention Osimhen’s move to Galatasaray has brought.
