The Nigeria Immigration Service has directed its passport offices across the Federation to extend its work days to Saturday.
According to The PUNCH, this was gathered that the order was given to help the agency clear its heavy backlog of passport applications.
In a statement made available by the service’s public relations officer, Mr. Tony Akuneme, on Saturday, the Comptroller -General of the NIS, Isa Jere, stated that he would hold passport officers under their watch, adding that the directive was to enable the service clear their backlog which was caused by the event of the COVID-19 period.
He said, “The C-G has directed that Passport offices across the country with high volume of pending applications to work on Saturdays.
“The period for this exercise is expected to be every Saturday commrencing from December 3, 2022 to January 28, 2023 between the period of 10 am to 2 pm.
“This is to enhance our service delivery to out esteemed clients. The Saturday proceding the Christmas and New Year holidays are exempted.”
Akuneme added that those passport offices should get in touch with his office by Monday, November 28 for more information.
He said this while reiterating the CG’s commitment to making passport services accessible and hassle-free for travelers, particularly during the holiday season.
