The Nigerian Medical Association, Abia State branch, is set to begin its strike on Thursday.
According to The Nation, the body disclosed that it would be embarking on the strike over non-payment of members’ salaries by the state government.
According to a communique issued after its meeting on Wednesday, and signed by Dr. Abali Isaiah, chairman and Dr. Daniel Ekeleme, secretary, NMA said doctors working at ABSUTH and HMB were being owed between 21 and 25 months and 13 months salary arrears.
The NMA condemned in the strongest terms the non-payment of doctors at ABSUTH and HMB, and stated that its ultimatum to the government remains in effect.
As a condition for averting the strike, the association insisted on payment of what is owed to doctors.
