The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Tuesday uncovered several sacks of money at Nigeria Police Barracks Wadata, Makurdi.
Viral video of the scene shared online showed the money in different denominations, were stacked in more than 5,000 of 50kg sacks, bearing Unity Bank logos.
The owner was initially detained by anti-corruption agency agents and taken to their Zonal Office in Makurdi, but was later released following a number of inquiries.
The owner of the materials, who asked that his name not be used, responded when he was contacted that he has been in the business of purchasing confiscated funds from the Central Bank of Nigeria and selling them to his clients who use them to produce other finished goods like cartons and egg crates, among other things.
A quick glance at each of the packages reveals that the shredded money, which was in denominations of N1000, N500, N200, and N100, has been grounded and glued together like cartons after being stored for a considerable amount of time.
