A 20-year-old man, Solomon Johnson, has been remanded at the Kirikiri custodial facility by an Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Friday, for alleged illegal possession of a firearm.
The News Agency of Nigeria reported that the Magistrate, Mrs M. Ayinde, who did not take Johnson’s plea, ordered that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the state Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.
Ayinde adjourned the case until May 23 for hearing.
The defendant, who resides at 17, Okosun St., Ajangbadi, Ojo, Lagos State, is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The prosecutor, Insp Segun Oke, had earlier told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 13 at Ajegunle, Lagos State.
Oke explained that a team of policemen on patrol arrested the defendant with a locally-made double-barrel gun and two live cartridges.
He said that the defendant could not give any satisfactory explanation as to how he got them.
Oke pointed out that the offences contravened Sections 4 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.
