The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board is gearing up to decide the cut-off for admissions into universities, polytechnics, and other tertiary institutions for 2023, The PUNCH reports.
This momentous occasion, slated for June 24, 2023, at the esteemed National Judicial Institute, will gather heads of tertiary institutions and regulatory bodies, including the National Universities Commission, National Board for Technical Education, and National Commission for Colleges of Education, among others.
In a statement released by JAMB’s Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the board unveiled the agenda for the upcoming Policy Meeting.
The gathering will welcome two representatives from each institution, namely the Head of the Institution and an official nominated by the Head.
The meeting will not only address issues arising from the just-concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination but also delve into other matters of national significance within the education sector.
The Policy Meeting holds immense importance as it will chart policy directions for Nigeria’s tertiary institutions, establish admission guidelines, present and analyze application statistics and candidates’ performance, and evaluate the 2023 Admission exercise.
Of particular significance, the meeting will determine the acceptable minimum admissible score to be applied in all admissions conducted by tertiary institutions across the country.
It is worth noting that during the 2022 Policy Meeting, institutions were granted the authority to set their minimum cut-off marks for admission, which must not be lowered once adopted and general concessions are reached.
This development granted institutions greater autonomy in shaping their admission processes while maintaining a collective standard.
The upcoming meeting promises to be a platform for robust discussions and critical decision-making that will shape the future of higher education in Nigeria.
Stakeholders will gather to deliberate on issues of utmost importance and work towards the advancement of the education sector as a whole.
