Suleman Dawood, a British university student in his early 20s, tragically perished in the sinking of the Titanic submarine.
His aunt, Azmeh Dawood, has revealed that her nephew was scared of the journey and only joined the crew to please his father on Father’s Day.
In an interview with NBC News, Dawood claimed that Suleman had told a cousin that he wasn’t feeling well but that he felt compelled to attend because of his father’s interest in the shipwreck of 1912.
She said, “I am thinking of Suleman, who is 19, in there, just perhaps gasping for breath… It’s been crippling, to be honest.”
Two of the five persons killed when the OceanGate submersible exploded were the Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman.
British billionaire Hamish Harding was another victim, as was OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush and French Navy veteran Paul-Henri (PH) Nargeolet.
The Titan submarine vanished on Sunday, and the search for the crew has been fraught with anxiety ever since.
