Residents of the Irese village in Ondo State’s Ifedore Local Government Area have urged the state government to address the frequent flooding events in their area.
It was learned that water has affected the town’s roads, making it challenging for vehicles to enter and exit the neighbourhood.
The sole ‘tarred road’ into the town, according to the locals, had been in terrible shape for a long time and was now becoming inaccessible because the rainy season had started.
The monarch of Irese town, Oba Ahmed Saka, commented on the development and appealed to the state government to help the community build a better road with drainages for the community in order to prevent the community from being cut off as a result of the flood. Oba Ahmed Saka expressed concern over the danger of plying the road during the rainy season.
He also bemoaned the uncountable man hours that commuters and car owners in the community waste whenever the route is flooded.
“Although we appreciate the state government for the ongoing construction from Akure to Irese Road, It’s a kind gesture and welcome development by our people.
“But we are pleading that the same gesture should be extended to Irese and other towns in Ifedore because this is the only road that links both Ifedore and Akure South LGAs together.
“And in doing this, this issue of flooding taking over the major road of the community would stop, and residents would finally heave a sigh of relief without any fear of their house, shops or businesses being submerged.”
