10 people were reported killed in a fatal multiple auto accident on Thursday night in the Ile Pupa area along the Jebba-Bode Saadu motorway in Kwara State.
According to the first information report of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the three vehicles involved in the accident were a petroleum tanker, a Toyota Corolla car, and a Volkswagen Sharan vehicle.
According to the Tribune, the particulars of the three vehicles involved were given as a private green-coloured Volkswagen Sharan vehicle with registration number AKD733FX and a private Toyota Corolla gold-coloured car with registration number GWA22DD, while the driver’s name was identified as Oladokun Waheed.
The third vehicle was described as a white-coloured Gallop commercial JAC petrol tanker belonging to Danmaran Petroleum Limited.
Speaking on the incident, the FRSC sector commander, Frederick Ogidan, said that a total of N60,750 was recovered from the scene of the crash.
He also mentioned that survivors of the crash sustained varying degrees of injuries such as bruises and cuts, and the injured individuals had been taken to Shalom Hospital, Bode Saadu, while the deceased bodies were deposited at the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital mortuary.
He stated that police officers from the Jebba Divisional Unit had taken custody of the vehicles involved in the accident.
“Motorists are advised to be cautious of the way they speed and overtake wrongfully. FRSC Kwara will commence another round of enforcement on speed violations and overloading on Monday, July 14, 2023, as we cannot tolerate a situation where 10 lives are lost in a single crash,” he said.
