The National Universities Commission has mandated a comprehensive audit of the personnel comprising both the academic and non-academic employees inside federal universities around the nation.
The directive was communicated to all Vice-Chancellors in a letter dated September 14, 2023, and signed by acting Executive Secretary of the commission Chris Maiyaki.
The letter also mentioned that the permission came from the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman.
The message read, “The National Universities Commission has briefed the Honourable Minister of Education on the need for a manpower audit, preparatory to a well-informed manpower planning befitting the exponential expansion being experienced in the Nigerian university system.
“Consequently, the Honourable Minister of Education has directed Vice-Chancellors of all Nigerian universities to conduct a manpower audit in their respective institutions. The reports of the envisaged audit should encapsulate their staffing profiles including nominal rolls with staff file numbers according to their full time, visiting or adjunct categories, to be submitted in both hard and soft copies through the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, for onward transmission to the good offices of the Honourable Minister of Education.”
While indicating the address the information should be forwarded to, the message added, “I am to emphasise that there is some degree of urgency implicit in the ministerial directive, which responses are expected on or before Monday, 9 October, 2023.”
