The Lagos State Police Command on Thursday said a police officer serving at the Special Protection Unit Base 17, Lion Building is behind the shooting of a civilian at a filling station in the Obalende area of Lagos, which resulted in his death.
PunchMetro had published that a young man, Toheeb Eniafe, was shot at a petrol station belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited at Obalende in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.
According to the spokesperson of the command on Benjamin Hundeyin, although the investigation is still ongoing, the Command has assured that further findings will be made public as soon as possible.
Hundeyin said the command working closely with the family of the deceased to ensure that justice is served and that there is no miscarriage of justice.
He wrote, “The person behind the shooting has been identified as a police officer serving at Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 17, Lion Building, Lagos.
“Investigation is still ongoing and further findings will be made available. Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command is working with the family of the deceased to ensure that there is no miscarriage of justice.”
Hundeyin had earlier confirmed the incident.
He said a young man, Toheeb Eniafe, was killed and two vehicles burnt. He, however, said the identity of the shooters was not yet ascertained as investigations were ongoing.
He said, “I can confirm that somebody was shot dead. I can confirm that the body has been deposited in the morgue.
“Two vehicles were burnt. The identity of the shooter is still unknown but investigations are ongoing to unravel that. The deceased’s name is Toheeb Eniafe.”
