Super Eagles winger, Ademola Lookman, is set to face off against his compatriots Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella in the final of the UEFA Europa League, as both Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen secured their spots in the grand finale.
Lookman played a crucial role in Atalanta’s second leg semi-final fixture against Marseille, scoring in the 30th minute to give his team the lead.
Matteo Ruggeri and El Bilal Toure added further goals in the 52nd and 95th minute, securing a 3-0 win for Atalanta.
Despite a strong performance, Lookman was substituted in the 76th minute for Bilal Toure.
On the other hand, Tella and Boniface were unused substitutes as Bayer Leverkusen managed a 2-2 draw at home to AS Roma in their semi-final return leg.
Bayer Leverkusen, who were 2-0 up from the first leg, conceded two penalties converted by Leandro Paredes in the 43rd and 66th minutes.
However, they fought back in the second half, with an own goal from Mancini and a goal from substitute Josip Stanisic in the 82nd and 97th minute, leveling the score and securing their spot in the final.
Bayer Leverkusen’s unbeaten run now stands at 49 matches, surpassing Benfica’s record.
The final between Atalanta and Bayer Leverkusen is scheduled for Wednesday, May 22nd.
