No fewer than 1,284 suspects were arrested by the Nigerian Police Force in various operations across the country over the past six weeks.
The arrests include 307 armed robbery suspects, 296 kidnapping suspects, 176 rape and defilement suspects, 301 homicide suspects, and 204 suspected cultists.
The Force Spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, who disclosed this said some of the suspects were arrested for various offences.
Adejobi reported that the police rescued 97 kidnapped victims and recovered 284 firearms along with 6,702 rounds of ammunition.
He stated, “In the last six weeks, the Nigerian police force has arrested 307 armed robbery suspects, 296 kidnapping suspects, 301 homicide suspects, 176 rape and defilement suspects, and 204 suspected cultists.
“We’ve recovered 284 firearms, 6,702 rounds of ammunition, and 107 vehicles, and we were able to rescue 97 victims of kidnapping.”
Adejobi also mentioned the establishment of a money laundering unit by the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to combat financial crimes.
The unit, according to him, will leverage the existing collaboration between the police and other anti-graft agencies to curb terrorism financing and international crimes.
