Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has firmly stated that the government will not tolerate any form of violence during the upcoming planned protests.
According to DailyTrust, this declaration was made during a meeting with business leaders, traditional rulers, and religious leaders at the Government House in Kano on Wednesday.
The governor stressed the importance of peaceful demonstrations, noting that protests should not lead to disorder. “Protests will not take us anywhere,” Yusuf said.
He urged those planning to protest to avoid actions that could be manipulated by those intent on causing trouble.
“We have credible intelligence that certain individuals are recruiting thugs to incite violence in the state,” Yusuf revealed.
He assured that the government is prepared to address grievances through dialogue. “I invite those who wish to demonstrate to come to the Government House. I am willing to listen to their concerns and engage in constructive dialogue.”
Governor Yusuf highlighted various initiatives undertaken by his administration to improve the well-being of Kano’s citizens. These include educational scholarships for over 1,000 students abroad, empowerment programs for women that provide monthly stipends to over 5,000 beneficiaries, and efforts to ensure access to clean drinking water in metropolitan areas.
Additionally, the government has distributed N1 billion worth of fertilizer to rural communities free of charge to enhance agricultural productivity.
The governor also criticized the negative impact of social media on leadership, urging a more constructive approach to addressing the state’s challenges, including hunger and other pressing issues.
Yusuf reiterated the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability, emphasizing that violent actions and the destruction of property will not be tolerated during protests.
