A 35-year-old man named Emmanuel Urhobocha has reportedly died by suicide in his apartment on Alafia Street, Sango-Ota, situated within the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
According to The PUNCH, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident on Saturday, stating that the tragic event occurred around 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
This marks the second such incident in the state within a short period, following the death by suicide of a 32-year-old man, Olúwaṣeun Shorinola, in the Kémta area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on August 28, 2024.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Odutola Omolola, disclosed that the deceased’s roommate, identified as Obabiyi David, had earlier approached the Sango-Ota Police Division to report alarming behaviour exhibited by Urhobocha.
“He (David) stated that Urhobocha was behaving oddly and even mentioned that the deceased had attacked him with a knife at one point. David sustained injuries but managed to escape the assault,” Odutola explained.
In response, a team of officers from the Sango-Ota Police Division was dispatched to investigate the reported assault.
Upon arrival at the residence, they discovered that the apartment was locked from the inside, raising immediate concern.
After repeated attempts to gain access, the officers finally succeeded in breaking down the door, only to find Urhobocha lying unresponsive on the floor of the apartment.
Odutola further revealed, “He was discovered dead in the apartment, with a container of insecticide found next to his body.”
Efforts were made to save him as he was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, but the attending doctor confirmed him dead on arrival.
His body has been taken to the morgue for an autopsy, and the police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
