Chelsea is on the verge of securing a long-term future for their striker, Nicolas Jackson, with a new contract, as confirmed by manager Enzo Maresca.
The 23-year-old Senegalese forward originally signed an eight-year deal when he arrived at Stamford Bridge last summer.
His debut season in the Premier League has seen him score 14 goals, including two in his most recent appearances. Despite these accomplishments, Jackson faces significant scrutiny from rival supporters as he continues to strive for greater consistency in his performances.
Following Chelsea’s recent 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace, Maresca expressed his unwavering support for Jackson and confirmed that the striker is nearing the finalization of a contract extension.
“The only thing I know is he’s signing a new contract – I don’t know how many years,” Maresca shared with reporters. “I’m very happy. Nicolas is doing a fantastic job with us. He scored again. He had more chances but we’re happy with him.”
As reported by The Athletic, Jackson’s new contract is expected to extend until 2033, a clear indication of Chelsea’s intent to reward the striker for his significant contributions since his arrival.
The pressure on Jackson has been amplified by Chelsea’s highly publicized search for a new striker during the summer transfer window.
The club engaged in initial discussions with Brentford’s Ivan Toney and made a late attempt to lure Napoli’s Victor Osimhen to West London.
Reflecting on the summer’s transfer activity, Maresca reiterated the club’s belief in Jackson.
“I had faith, and the club also, even before [in Jackson],” he stated. “We trust Nicolas. When the transfer window was open, I said he was doing fantastic with us.”
Maresca further explained Chelsea’s approach to their striker search, noting, “We want players but we wanted a player that we decide. It has to be on our conditions. If a player is not here then it was not. We will see in January.”
As Chelsea looks ahead, the club’s trust in Jackson remains evident, and his new contract is a testament to the value they place on his role in their future success.
