The Chairman of the Onigbongbo Local Council Development Area, Oladotun Olakanle, who passed away at the age of 54.
Olakanle reportedly died in the early hours of Saturday, November 2, 2024, though the precise cause of his death remains unknown at the time of this report.
Just one day prior, on Friday, November 1, 2024, Olakanle’s administration had been active in strengthening security within the council by distributing new vehicles to police divisions in the area.
His final public appearance, however, took place on Thursday, October 31, when he attended the burial ceremony of Dr. Adesola Taiwo, a respected APC chieftain and CEO of Adefemi Taiwo Hospitals.
The loss of Olakanle has left the community shocked, especially among close associates who had just seen him days earlier.
“We were at a party together on Thursday. His death is still devastating to me,” shared a close friend, expressing the personal impact of the loss to local journalists.
This tragic incident marks the second time in recent years that an Onigbongbo LCDA Chairman has passed away while in office during their second term.
Olakanle’s predecessor, Babatunde Oke, also died mid-tenure, with his death attributed to complications arising from Covid-19.
The news of Olakanle’s passing has thus reignited sorrow within the community, underscoring the fragility and uncertainty of life in public service.
