An adult male lost his life in a multiple-vehicle collision on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway on Sunday, confirmed by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency.
Several others sustained injuries in the accident.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu the incident occurred at the Ile-Epo Bus Stop, Oko-Afa, on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
Emergency teams were activated after distress calls were received at 9:33 a.m. via the agency’s toll-free lines, 767 and 112.
“Upon arrival at the scene, it was discovered that several vehicles were involved in a series of collisions,” Oke-Osanyintolu said.
He specified that the accident involved a fully loaded truck with registration number FFF 754 XB, a white Toyota Hummer bus owned by Cross Country Transport, with registration number MUS 210 YJ, a Volkswagen commercial bus, registration number LSR 166 YE, and a Nissan car, whose registration number was unknown.
The crash, he noted, resulted in the death of an adult male, while the injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals by Federal Road Safety Corps officials.
“Further investigations revealed that the incident occurred due to reckless driving on the part of the truck driver, who lost control at high speed, resulting in a crash involving the three affected vehicles,” he explained.
LASEMA officials implemented safety measures to protect responders during the operation and put traffic management strategies in place to ensure a smooth flow of vehicles.
“All three affected vehicles have been towed to Morogbo Police Station, and the truck has been removed from the scene to restore traffic along the expressway,” Oke-Osanyintolu added.
He also stated that FRSC officials had moved the deceased to the morgue before the emergency response team arrived.
