Nigerians have solidified their position as some of the world’s most avid social media users, ranking fifth globally for the average daily time spent online, according to 2024 data released by Cable.co.uk and We Are Social.
These findings, highlighted in a post by World of Statistics on X on Sunday, revealed that Nigerians dedicate an average of 3 hours and 23 minutes each day to social media platforms.
Leading the global chart is Kenya, where citizens spend the most time on social media, averaging 3 hours and 43 minutes daily.
South Africa comes in a close second, with an average of 3 hours and 37 minutes, followed by Brazil at 3 hours and 34 minutes and the Philippines at 3 hours and 33 minutes.

In addition to these top contenders, other nations exhibiting high levels of social media usage include Colombia (3:22), Chile (3:11), and Indonesia (3:11). Rounding out the top ten are Saudi Arabia and Argentina, with daily averages of 3 hours and 10 minutes and 3 hours and 8 minutes, respectively.
Conversely, some countries report lower engagement on social media. For instance, Ghana averages 2 hours and 43 minutes, while Egypt sees an average of 2 hours and 41 minutes, and Thailand records 2 hours and 30 minutes.
In Europe, social media usage is comparatively lower, with countries like Portugal (2:23), Romania (2:20), and Italy (2:17) falling behind the global average. This disparity underscores the variations in social media engagement across different regions of the world.
