The Independent National Electoral Commission has disclosed that sensitive materials, including ballot papers and result sheets, will arrive in Akure by November 12, 2024.
During a pre-election stakeholders’ meeting in Akure on Thursday, INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, reiterated the commission’s commitment to ensuring a transparent and well-organized election.
According to Yakubu, the materials will be securely stored at the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Akure branch before being inspected by representatives of political parties and other stakeholders to confirm their readiness and integrity.
“We will invite political parties and other stakeholders for the usual inspection of the materials at the Central Bank here in Akure, and throughout the movement of sensitive materials to the local governments and the ward centres,” Yakubu said.
Yakubu said INEC had completed logistical arrangements for the timely delivery and distribution of all election materials, highlighting that land and maritime transport options have been prepared to reach all parts of Ondo State.
He stated, “We have made arrangements for land and maritime transportation of personnel and materials,” ensuring that polling units across the state remain accessible.
To further safeguard the integrity of the election, he said INEC had collaborated with security agencies to protect both the sensitive materials and the personnel involved in the electoral process.
Yakubu assured Ondo residents of INEC’s dedication to conducting a fair, secure, and transparent election process, stating, “INEC is ready to conduct a fair, secure, and transparent election.”
