Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has affirmed that the Nigerian team will give their all in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Benin Republic and Rwanda.
With qualification in sight, the Super Eagles are focused on cementing their place in the tournament set for Morocco.
Nigeria currently leads Group D with 10 points from four games and is within reach of securing a spot at AFCON 2025, needing just one point from the two remaining fixtures to qualify.
Despite this advantage, Ogunmodede emphasized that the team is taking no chances, approaching both matches with the intensity of a knockout round.
“Every match we want to approach it like a Cup final, we want to win all matches,” Ogunmodede stated during an interview on NFF TV.
He added that the team remains focused on winning rather than calculating points. “I’m not aware we needed just one point to qualify, so we just want to win regardless of the number of points left to qualify.”
Ogunmodede, who is also the head coach of Nigerian Premier Football League side Remo Stars, highlighted the priorities laid out by head coach José Peseiro, stressing that they aim not only to secure qualification but to do so decisively.
“First, the priority is for us to qualify,” Ogunmodede continued. “And secondly, according to the head coach, to win all games as they come and a maximum of three points is what is important to us.”
The Super Eagles will first face the Cheetahs of Benin Republic away in a matchday five clash next Thursday, followed by their final qualifying game against the Amavubi of Rwanda on home soil on Monday, November 14.
With a record as three-time AFCON champions, the Nigerian team remains determined to uphold their legacy by finishing the qualifiers on a high note.
