The Nigeria Youths Frontiers and Peace Advocates has strongly criticised political commentator, Reno Omokri, following his recent controversial remarks about Pastor Becky Enenche of the Dunamis International Gospel Centre.
Omokri’s comments came after Pastor Enenche discussed the importance of paying tithes during a sermon, which sparked a fiery reaction from the activist.
Omokri referred to Pastor Enenche as a “Yahoo girl on the altar,” a comment that quickly ignited outrage, especially among members of the Christian community who found his words both inflammatory and deeply disrespectful.
In response, the NYFPA issued a statement through its National Publicity Secretary, Samuel Geofrey, on Monday, condemned Omokri’s remarks as “inflammatory, baseless, and deeply irresponsible.”
The group expressed its disappointment with the activist, stating that such comments were unbecoming of someone who positions himself as a public figure and political activist.
“Reno Omokri’s statements are an affront to millions of Nigerians who revere their faith and spiritual leaders,” the statement read. “His choice of words reflects a profound lack of respect for Christianity and the principles of dialogue and mutual understanding in a civilized society.”
The NYFPA did not stop at criticizing Omokri’s latest comments. The organization also highlighted his controversial public record, which, according to them, is riddled with inconsistencies and a history of stirring divisive rhetoric.
They accused him of frequently engaging in controversy in order to maintain public attention, often at the expense of unity and constructive dialogue.
Furthermore, the NYFPA reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace, truth, and justice, urging Nigerians to reject divisive narratives and focus on building a more cohesive society based on mutual respect.
“Omokri’s statements represent not only an attack on Pastor Becky Enenche but also an affront to the millions of Nigerians who hold their faith and spiritual leaders in high esteem,” the statement continued. “His choice of words betrays a profound lack of respect, not only for Christianity but for the principles of dialogue and mutual respect that underpin a civilized society.”
The group concluded by reflecting on Omokri’s public persona, saying it was unfortunate that someone who positions himself as both a moral and political guide has a history marked by inconsistency, self-serving motives, and a tendency to create unnecessary controversies.
The NYFPA’s statement serves as a strong rebuke to Omokri’s behaviour and a call for a more respectful and constructive discourse in the public sphere.
