The Nigeria Police Force has apprehended four suspects involved in a forgery, job racketeering, and impersonation ring.
The arrests followed intelligence reports and a petition from the Office of the Special Assistant to the President, according to a statement released on Tuesday via X.
The suspects—Khuzaifa Tafida, Zakari Abdullahi, Abdullahi Baba, and Adeyemo Morufu—were detained by operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Investigation Unit.
They are accused of forging documents from government agencies to defraud job seekers.
“Upon interrogation, the suspects admitted to their involvement in forging official documents from several government offices, which they used to deceive unsuspecting victims by promising employment in federal agencies,” the statement revealed.
Among the items recovered during the operation were forged documents allegedly from the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress and the State House, Abuja, as well as stamps and a sum of ₦1.7 million.
The statement also warned the public against falling victim to such schemes. “We advise citizens to remain vigilant and avoid engaging with individuals or groups offering employment opportunities outside established procedures,” it cautioned.
In addition to the arrests, the Nigeria Police reported the successful prevention of several kidnapping attempts nationwide.
In Katsina State, officers from the Jibia Divisional Headquarters thwarted an abduction along the Magama-Jibia road.
Fourteen victims were rescued after police engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle. However, two individuals sustained gunshot wounds inflicted by the fleeing assailants.
In Kaduna State, police operatives in Idasu Village rescued 89 victims and recovered a locally made AK-47 rifle with five rounds of ammunition during an attempted abduction.
Similar rescue missions were carried out in Lagos, Zamfara, and Delta States, leading to the safe recovery of additional victims.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the officers involved in these operations.
“The Force remains committed to maintaining professionalism and ensuring the safety and security of all Nigerians,” he said.
