The Katsina State Police Command has commenced an extensive training initiative for its patrol and guard officers to enhance their operational efficiency and strengthen public safety across the state.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Monday in Katsina, the Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar-Musa, emphasized the importance of equipping officers with up-to-date skills to address evolving security challenges effectively.
“Fighting crime requires equipping our officers with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively. This training reflects our commitment to that objective,” he said.
The programme, which is designed to refresh and upgrade the officers’ capabilities, covers core policing duties, advanced weapon handling, defensive driving, vehicle management, and crisis management.
Other areas include communication and interpersonal skills, as well as conflict resolution techniques.
The commissioner highlighted the critical role of continuous training in addressing the security challenges facing the state and the nation.
“Officers must be prepared to tackle emerging threats and ensure the safety of lives and property,” Abubakar-Musa stated.
He further noted that the training aligns with the Inspector-General of Police’s vision of creating a professional and service-oriented police force.
“Our goal is to have a competent police force that can adapt to the ever-changing dynamics of the security landscape in the country,” he added.
The Katsina Police Command, according to the commissioner, remains committed to enhancing the skills of its personnel while prioritizing the safety and security of all residents in the state.
