A devastating fire at the National Social Investment Programme Agency warehouse in the Idu Industrial Area of Abuja has destroyed training tools valued at billions of Naira.
The equipment was meant for the N-Power programme under the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction.
The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Yusuf Sununu, has ordered the establishment of a five-member committee to investigate the cause of the fire.
The committee is tasked with estimating the value of the destroyed items and recommending measures to prevent future incidents.
During an inspection of the warehouse, Dr. Sununu assured stakeholders of the ministry’s commitment to safeguarding its assets. “With what has happened, we will ensure that all other items in our warehouses are adequately protected,” he said.
“We will also expedite the training of beneficiaries so that the remaining procured tools can be effectively utilized.”
The committee has been given a two-week deadline to submit its findings.
Dr. Sununu also praised the swift intervention of emergency responders, including the Federal Fire Service, FCT Fire Service, and Julius Berger, for containing the blaze.
“Their timely response was crucial in preventing further damage,” he noted. He further commended the Nigeria Police Force, Life Camp Division, for ensuring the security of the warehouse and protecting the remaining items from theft or vandalism.
