In a bid to boost tourism and foster economic growth, Oyo State will host its first-ever New Year’s Eve Countdown event in collaboration with Ninja Naija Incorporated.
The festival, themed “Celebrating Culture, Creativity, and Unity,” is slated for December 30 and 31, 2024, across the state’s three Senatorial Districts: Oyo Central, Oyo South, and Oyo North.
The event, titled Oyo Countdown 2025, will showcase the state’s rich cultural heritage and provide a platform for local artists and businesses.
The announcement was made by the Festival Director, Dare Fasasi, popularly known as Baba Dee, who emphasized the festival’s aim to unite communities while spotlighting the creative talents within the state.
“The Oyo Countdown will be an unforgettable celebration of culture, music, and creativity,” Fasasi said.
“It will feature traditional oral chanting, dance competitions, live musical concerts, and an incredible fireworks display to usher in 2025. This event will simultaneously hold across Ibadan, Oyo, Ogbomoso, and Iseyin, creating a one-of-a-kind experience for all attendees.”
Oyo State’s Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun confirmed the government’s support for the initiative. He highlighted the administration’s dedication to positioning Oyo State as a top cultural and tourism destination.
“This countdown festival demonstrates our administration’s resolve to promote tourism and enhance the creative economy,” Olatunbosun stated.
“Through this partnership with Ninja Naija Incorporated, we aim to attract visitors, stimulate local businesses, and provide opportunities for our creative talents to shine.”
He added that the festival aligns with the state’s broader strategy to develop its cultural and tourism sector, which includes hosting events such as the International Tourism Summit Oyo State (ITS Oyo State 2024).
“We are committed to unlocking the vast tourism potential of Oyo State. With strategic collaborations and innovative initiatives like this countdown event, we are making remarkable progress in positioning Oyo as a leading destination for culture and tourism,” Olatunbosun remarked.
Ahead of the main celebration, the festival will kick off with a week of cultural and creative activities. These include oral chanting and dance competitions, music showcases, DJ battles, and traditional performances. Fasasi noted that the grand finale on December 30 and 31 would culminate in a spectacular fireworks display to welcome the New Year.
“The Oyo Countdown is more than just a celebration; it’s an opportunity to explore the tourism potential of our state while contributing to the growth of the creative industry. It offers a serene and vibrant alternative for fun lovers and tourists seeking an unforgettable end-of-year experience,” Fasasi explained.
