Nigeria’s national women’s football team, Super Falcons have been crowned the National Team of the Year at the prestigious CAF Awards held in Marrakech, Morocco.
This accolade, announced on Monday by the Confederation of African Football underscores the team’s sustained excellence and dominance in African women’s football.
The recognition celebrates their remarkable achievements and significant contributions over the past year, as they continued to represent Nigeria with distinction on the continental stage.
The CAF Awards, an annual event honoring Africa’s football elite, highlight the outstanding accomplishments of players, teams, and coaches across various categories.
President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, accepted the award on behalf of the team.
In his remarks, he expressed deep gratitude to the organizers while emphasizing the importance of fostering greater support for women’s football.
“We are grateful for this award again this year. I was here last year to receive this same award, which is to show the development and resilience of Nigerian football,” he stated.
Gusau also extended his appreciation to Nigeria’s First Lady, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu, for her unwavering support of women’s football in the country.
“I also want to use this moment to appreciate our First Lady back home for her continuous support to the development of women football in Nigeria,” he added.
