The Transmission Company of Nigeria has alerted residents in the Federal Capital Territory to potential power outages in certain areas due to scheduled maintenance activities.
In a statement issued on Saturday, TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, announced that engineers would be performing planned maintenance on two transmission substations over the weekend.
“Maintenance will be carried out on a 60MVA power transformer and its associated switch gears at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation,” Mbah explained.
According to TCN, the maintenance will temporarily disrupt electricity supply to some customers served by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company.
“Today, Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 9 am to 1 pm, maintenance will be carried out on a 60MVA power transformer and its associated switch gears at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation. During this period, Abuja DisCo will not be able to supply electricity to customers in Gwagwalada and its environs for four hours only,” she stated.
Mbah further disclosed that similar work would take place on Sunday, affecting different areas.
“Also, on Sunday, December 29, 2024, from 9 am to 10 pm, maintenance work will be carried out on one of the 60MVA power transformers at the Kukwaba 132/33kV Transmission Substation. This will result in power interruption in Wuye, EFCC, Federal Medical Centre, Coca-Cola, Idu Railway Station, Citec, and Life Camp.”
TCN acknowledged the inconvenience these outages might cause, particularly during the festive season, but emphasized the necessity of the maintenance.
“TCN apologizes for the inconvenience this may cause, especially during the end-of-year and yuletide season. However, it is important that maintenance is carried out as scheduled for the optimal performance of power equipment,” Mbah stated.
