A Nigerian lawyer and rights activist, Ayo Sogunro, has been reportedly arrested by the police in Abuja, the nations capital.
Sogunro who was a critic of the Goodluck Jonathan administration the regime of ex-President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari administration(retd.) was reportedly arrested on Friday evening in his hotel room after he landed in Nigeria from abroad.
According to updates shared on his Twitter handle, Sogunro claimed he was followed from the airport by the operatives until he was arrested this evening.
“They followed me to my hotel from the airport,” he tweeted.
He has been detained at the Garki Police station, he added after the tweet.
Punch Metro’s efforts to contact the Force PRO, CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, via phone calls and text were not responded to.
Meanwhile, an FIJ reporter, Ojukwu Justin Daniel on Twitter, claimed to have contacted the Abuja Police PPRO, Josephine Adeh, asking her to look into the alleged.
He quoted her as responding thus, “I won’t because it is night, let me attend to my family. They will brief me tomorrow, and I will see.”
