Spanish football star and Former Chelsea striker, Alvaro Morata, has been forced to vacate his new luxury home after claiming that the local mayor compromised his family’s security.
The 31-year-old footballer, who recently made the move from Atletico Madrid to AC Milan after captaining Spain to victory at Euro 2024, settled into a property in the town of Corbetta, located around 20 miles from central Milan.
However, the situation took a sudden turn after Corbetta’s mayor, Marco Ballarini, publicly welcomed Morata via social media, inadvertently drawing unwanted attention to the star’s presence.
Morata, who separated from his wife Alice Campello earlier in 2024, was looking for a fresh start with his four children in the small town, which has a population of just over 18,000.
Ballarini’s social media post, meant to celebrate the arrival of the football star, backfired as the town’s residents quickly became aware of Morata’s location.
Concerned for his children’s safety, Morata felt the need to relocate almost immediately, citing the heightened attention that had put his family at risk.
In an Instagram story, Morata did not hold back in expressing his frustration, “Dear Mr. Mayor, thanks for violating my privacy,” he wrote. “Thankfully I don’t have anything of value. The only treasures I have are my children, whose security has been jeopardised by you.”
Morata continued, criticizing the mayor’s use of social media and the failure to protect the privacy of new arrivals like himself. “I thought that the town of Corbetta could afford me a certain amount of privacy. Instead, I find myself having to move house straight away, thanks to your inability to use social media and to safeguard your citizens,” he added.
The situation has undoubtedly disrupted what should have been a smooth transition for Morata, who is now left searching for a new residence in the Milan area amidst concerns over privacy and security for his family.
