Veteran Nigerian actor and renowned filmmaker, Kunle Afolayan, has announced the passing of his beloved mother, Omoladun Afolayan, who passed away at the age of 81.
Known as a cherished matriarch within the Afolayan family, she was deeply loved by her children, grandchildren, and many others whose lives she touched.
Kunle Afolayan shared the somber news on his Instagram page on Saturday, posting heartfelt photos capturing treasured moments with his late mother, including images of her in the warmth of family, surrounded by her grandchildren.
In his tribute, he wrote, “It is hard to accept but she surely lived a good life👼 Our mother, Maami Omoladun Ayanladun Afolayan, has gone to rest. (1943-2024).”
He added that she leaves behind not only her children but also grandchildren who will hold her memory dear. “Please keep us in your prayers. Omo re a gbeyin gbogbo wa,” he concluded, asking for comfort and support during this difficult time.
Kunle’s brother, Gabriel Afolayan, also expressed his grief, sharing his heartfelt loss on social media.
“Home is not cool. We lost a very dear one. You’d be greatly missed, big mummy (Iya Oyo). We all love you to bits. I will miss my gist and dance partner. Rest on #maami. Big love to my sibs #kunleafo #aremumimostwantedlikecrudeoil,” he wrote, reflecting on the irreplaceable bond he shared with their mother and their close-knit family.
Their mother, affectionately known as “Iya Oyo,” will be remembered for the love, wisdom, and light she brought into their lives. Her legacy lives on through her family, who hold her spirit close as they bid her a heartfelt farewell.
