Following the viral news that a Nigerian identified as Adewale Rabiu, started a franchise popularly known as Agege bread in Canada, many Nigerians have continued to praise Rabiu for his ingenuity.
The development gained mainstream media attending after the Mayor of Brampton, Patrick Brown, visited the factory, where he commended the Nigerian business owner for his efforts.
Below are five major facts about Rabiu, and his franchise, Grey Matlock Bakery, otherwise known as “Agege Bread in Canada”.
- The business was motivated by the Wife’s pregnancy Cravings – In an interview with The PUNCH, Rabiu revealed that the pregnancy cravings by his wife inspired the franchise.According to him, during this period, they realized that there was no Nigeria bread in Ontario, which has the highest numbers of Nigerians in Canada.
- Adewale Rabiu is a native of Abeokuta, Ogun State, Nigeria. He relocated to Canada in the year 2016 with the rest of his family.
- The Business is a family owned business, which is jointly run by his wife, who is from Ondo State, Nigeria.
- He had no prior experience or expertise in Bakery. According to Rabiu, he had to return to Lagos, in Nigeria, where an old friend identified as Tobi Ajayi, taught him to how bake bread.
- He was once a poultry farmer, in an interview with The PUNCH, he revealed that he used to be a poultry farmer in Nigeria before he left for Canada. Furthermore, he worked for 13 years in a major telecommunication company in Nigeria.
