The head coach of the Cheetahs of Benin Republic, Gernot Rohr, has unveiled a 24-man squad ahead of their crucial 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Nigeria and Libya.
The German tactician has retained most of his trusted regulars for the double-header.
Among the familiar names in the squad are goalkeeper Saturnin Allagbe, defensive stalwart Olivier Verdon, and forward Junior Olaitan. These players, alongside others, are crucial to Rohr’s tactical plans as he aims to secure vital points for the team’s progression.
Top players such as captain Steve Mounie, winger Jodel Dossou, and forward Aiyegun Tosin have also been called up to play a significant role in these qualifiers.
Mounie, known for his leadership and attacking prowess, will be pivotal in Benin’s push for a spot in the tournament.
The Cheetahs will face the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan on Thursday, November 14.
The match promises to be an intense battle, with Benin eager to secure a win on home soil. Following that, they will wrap up their qualifying campaign with an away fixture against Libya’s Mediterranean Knights on November 18.
Currently sitting in second place in Group D with six points from four matches, Benin will need to perform strongly in these two games to maintain their position and push for a place in next year’s AFCON tournament.
