Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest forward, Taiwo Awoniyi, has assured that Austin Eguavoen’s squad is solely focused on securing victory when they face Libya on matchday 3 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers today, Friday.
The Nigerian team will welcome the Mediterranean Knights to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, with the match marking the first of their two-legged showdown in the qualification campaign.
The Super Eagles currently sit atop Group D with four points from their first two matches, and a win in today’s encounter will further solidify their bid to qualify for the 2025 AFCON tournament set to take place in Morocco.
Awoniyi, who had been sidelined due to injury during the initial phase of the qualifiers, is now set to make his return.
He shared his thoughts on the team’s preparation and their determination to give the fans a victory.
“It’s a great privilege, and I think every player that is here is ready for the task for sure. Nothing but winning for the fans,” said Awoniyi, reinforcing the team’s mindset.
Awoniyi also spoke on the team’s chemistry, highlighting the bond between players that has been cultivated over time.
“We’ve known each other for years now, and we’ve gotten to see each other again. All the players are excited about it, and for sure, we are ready for the game,” he added, expressing confidence in the squad’s readiness to perform on the day.
With the stakes high and the home crowd behind them, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are determined to take a major step toward securing their place at the prestigious continental tournament.
