Flying Eagles of Nigeria beat South Sudan 1-0 on Monday night thanks to Sadiq Isiyaka’s penalty which secured victory for Nigeria.
The match, which took place at the Accra Sports Stadium, saw Charles Agada squander two goal-scoring opportunities late in the game.
The Flying Eagles had begun their campaign with a disappointing 2-1 loss against Uganda which left their hopes of a second round qualification hanging in the balance.
However, the Ladan Bosso side took their fate in their hands on Monday when they filed out against South Sudan as they ensured that they got back to winning ways to get their campaign on track.
A solitary goal was enough to pick up all three points against a resolute South Sudan side.
Sadiq Isiyiaka, who scored Nigeria’s only goal against Uganda, scored a penalty to give the Flying Eagles a 1-0 win.
The result means the Flying Eagles moved to second position in the Group B standings.
Ladan Bosso’s men are behind the Hippos of Uganda, who have six points from two games after beating Senegal 1-0 in the other group game clash.
The team will now shift their attention to their final game against Senegal on Friday to slug it out for a qualification ticket to the next round.
Meanwhile, only a draw required to quarantee qualification for the semifinals.
