Uganda defeated Flying Eagles of Nigeria 2-1 in their opening fixture in the men’s football event at the African Games 2023 in Accra on Thursday night.
Kizma Osama gave Uganda the lead in the 35th minute.
The Flying Eagles equalized in the 37th minute of the game thanks to Sadiq Isiyaka, who nodded home from a corner kick.
Ivan Irinimabozi then netted the winning goal for the Hippos in the 81st minute as he hit a low shot from the outside of the box which beat the Nigerian shot stopper.
The Flying Eagles will hope to bounce back from the opening day loss when they face South Sudan at Accra Sports Stadium on Monday 11, March.
Senegal defeated South Sudan 1-0 in the other Group B game.
